This post shows some of the interesting minerals that were on display on the public exhibits at the The 2016 NY/NJ Show in Edison, New Jersey. Within the public displays, there was a very nice variety of unique minerals on exhibit, with a special emphasis on Northeast localities, especially New Jersey.

One of the highlights of the NY/NJ Show this year was the display exhibits. Local collector and dealer Gary Maldovany spent much time and effort recruiting the local collectors to put together fine display exhibits. The results were phenomenal, with a very nice selection of minerals, especially local New Jersey Minerals. There were about 20 cases filled by clubs and local collectors.

The NY/NJ Mineral, Fossil, Gem, & Jewelry show, also known as the “Edison Show,” took place this past weekend at the New Jersey Expo Center in Edison. This show is very large, with hundreds of dealers of all types present.
This was definitely a fun show, with many affordable minerals and new finds presented by dealers. Although lacking many of the high-end, fine mineral dealers seen at other big shows, the variety of freelance collectors and dealers at this show with their unique minerals made up for this. Indeed there were quite a bit of surprising new finds that we were able to photograph and will document in the coming posts.
Minerals.net once again had a booth at the show, where we promoted our website, displayed some of our videos (including a preview of our new video on the 2016 Tucson show), and sold some local minerals. Quite a bit of local minerals could be found here this year, with a better selection than in previous years. My good friend Gary Maldovany had a very large booth of almost entirely local New York and New Jersey Minerals, including a large part of the Glenn Rhein Collection in Amity, New York.
Gary also gets a special mention for getting many of the locals together for the public showcase displays. (More about this in a future post.) In the meantime, enjoy the photos below of some of the general show scenes. We’ll be making additional posts in the next week or two, consisting of the following sections:
- Display Exhibits
- Display Exhibits Individual Minerals
- Hershel Friedman Stilbite Display
